With Budongo forest in the South, the Rift Valley escarpment to the west, open savannah amidst scattered trees in the Northern part, Murchison Falls National Park bisected by the mighty river Nile, protects a chunk of untamed wildlife. With the mighty falls forming splendid roars as the waters gasps through the narrow gorge.
Activities & attractions include game drives, a boat cruise on the river Nile and the hike to the top of the Murchison Falls.
Day 1 - The marvelous Murchison Falls
Depart Kampala early in the morning and drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park, the largest protected area in Uganda, with 3.840 sq Km, lunch in Masindi. Continue to the park, stopover at the top of the falls and arrive in time for Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge, with a unique view of the River (C) or Red Chilli Rest Camp (B). FB
Day 2 - The boat cruise on the river Nile
After a cup of tea, embark on an early morning game drive on the Northern bank where your guide will help you spot elephants, lions, cape buffalos, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, waterbucks, Oribis, bushbucks, spotted hyenas and, if you are lucky, leopards. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Relax at the swimming pool side. After lunch, you will safari upstream by boat to the calm Victoria Nile and the base of the falls just tens of meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron.” There you can marvel at toothsome hippos, crocodiles and over the 17-kilometer stretch you may also see elephants, waterbucks and Uganda kobs. This is also the habitat for many bird species including goliath herons, Egyptian geese, pelican bee-eaters, kingfishers, Hornbills, cormorants and the rare shoebill stork. The boat leaves you near the falls and you will hike to the top. It is an exciting experience that brings you very close to the rushing whitewater as it squeezes itself through the narrow crevice below. Relax a bit at the top where you can enjoy the Nile’s beauty. The ground can be felt trembling from the 43 meter drop of the falls and the resulting mist from the turbulence often produces rainbows. Your driver will be waiting for you here and return to Paraa Safari Lodge (C) or Red Chilli Rest Camp (B) for dinner and overnight. FB
